Uriel Segal was Music Director of Chautauqua Festival in New York State (1989 -2007), Founder-Chief Conductor ofCentury OrchestraOsaka(1989-1997), Music Director ofLouisville Orchestra, in Kentucky USA (1996 - 2004), Principal Conductor ofPhilharmonia Hungaricaand theBournemouth Symphony, Music Director ofIsrael Chamber Orchestraand Principal Guest Conductor ofStuttgart Radio Symphony(1972-1987)

In February of 2009 Segal conducted the Japanese Premiere of Ligeti's operaLe Grand Macabreat Tokyo National Theater.Other, more recent highlights have been Mahler'sDas Klagende Lied(Israeli Premiere), Dvorák'sStabat Mater,Stravinsky'sLe Sacre du Printemps(Stravinsky Anniversary), Mahler'sSymphony No.4and Israeli composer Mordechai Seter's revered oratorioTikkun Hatzot(Midnight Vigil).He is scheduled for a series of concerts with theJerusalem Cameratain the 2016-17 season.

Uriel Segal was born in Jerusalem (1944). His winning of the First Prize at theInternationalMitropoulos ConductingCompetitionin New York (1969) was followed by invitations for guest appearances with major European and American orchestras. In Europe Segal led among others theBerlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, London Symphony, London Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre de la Suisse RomandeandStockholm Philharmonic.In the USA and Canada he conducted theSymphony orchestras ofChicago, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Dallas, Houston, Montreal, and Rochester.In Israel heconducts theIsrael Philharmonicand theJerusalem Symphonyamong others.

In 1973 Segal made his operatic debut conducting'The Flying Dutchman'atSanta Fe, and has since conducted opera in Italy, France, Germany, Japan, Israel and the USA.
Segal has recorded for London-Decca and for EMI with theEnglish Chamber Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Bournemouth Symphony, New Zealand SymphonyandCentury Orchestra Osaka,and with soloistsVladimir Ashkenazi,Radu Lupu,Alicia de LarochaandRudolf Firkusny.
